New in 2023! APICDA is hosting a WINTER version of New in 2023! APICDA is hosting a WINTER version of our Photo Contest. This is in addition to our traditional Photo Contest that ends in September, thus allowing two chances to be featured in  publications and earn prize money. APICDA would like to capture more winter images and holiday events that may be easier to access/submit for participating photographers if they don't need to wait until September to find and enter them.

We hope you've received your 2023 calendar, which features the work of so many talented photographers and truly captures our extraordinary region.

With summer wrapping up, it’s time to start thin With summer wrapping up, it’s time to start thinking about submitting a Gear Reimbursement Grant application to be reimbursed for a portion of your fishing expenses. A wide range of items are covered for commercial fishing and subsistence harvesting, including fuel; bait; gear; personal protective gear; the purchase and repair of vessels, skiffs, and ATVs; materials for constructing or maintaining fish preservation structures for subsistence harvesting; and the shipping costs associated with approved items. You may be eligible for APICDA's Gear Reimbursement Grant (GRG) if you’ve purchased gear, fuel, or other supplies to subsistence harvest. The Aleutian Marketplace is excited to announce th The Aleutian Marketplace is excited to announce that an additional three businesses were funded with the Aleutian Marketplace Micro Grant (AMMG), for a total of 11 local businesses funded in 2022! 

Lydia Vincler, of Aleutian Beats Drums in Akutan, successfully applied for grant funding to rent a woodworking shop and purchase supplies. Additional grantees included Emil Mobeck’s Done Rite Contracting in Sand Point and Andrew Freeburg’s Scan Dawgs Gear Work in Unalaska. Emil plans to purchase needed tools for his home remodeling business with the grant, and Andrew will buy an electro-hydraulic rebar bender to repair crab pots.

The AMMG program will start accepting applications again on February 1, 2023, for residents with small businesses in the 12 Aleutian-Pribilof communities of Adak, Akutan, Atka, Cold Bay, King Cove, Nikolski, False Pass, Nelson Lagoon, Sand Point, St. George, St. Paul, and Unalaska. The Marketplace is dedicated to working with community members and small business owners throughout the region to explore business concepts and promote entrepreneurship opportunities to help develop the regional economy. Special thanks to the community members who participated in pre-development AMMG brainstorming sessions to create this new economic opportunity for the region!

The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) just released it The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) just released its new schedule for in-person and hybrid workforce training opportunities at AVTEC! APICDA scholarships are available to support APICDA community members' attendance at their trainings. Our Haginaa Kidul (Helping to Grow) Vocational Training Scholarship is also available to residents of Adak, Cold Bay, King Cove, and Sand Point, in addition to residents of the APICDA communities. Complete application packets should be received at least 30 days prior to the training start date for processing.

Check out their Bulk Fuel Operator training that begins in August!
