Atka Pride Seafoods

Atka is home to Atka Pride Seafoods (APS), a seafood processing plant which is a joint venture between APICDA Joint Ventures and the Atka Fisherman’s Association. This plant processes halibut products (H&G, filets and fletches) and sablefish. Many residents of Atka are employed at APS.

At present, Atka Pride Seafoods operates seasonally (from June through September). The decline in Area 4B halibut quotas (over 50% the last four years) has reduced the amount of halibut quota available to the plant. APICDA plans to construct a new and larger Atka Pride Seafoods facility in 2008. The new facility will be located on land already leased by APICDA next to the City Dock. The plant will have additional processing capacity for crab and Pacific cod. With the addition of this facility and a small boat harbor (estimated construction in 2009), the stage will be set for a year-round economy based upon fishing.
